Description :
Given the fact that 20% of the Georgian territory is occupied by the Russian forces, Georgia-Russia relationship is a hot issue. For ideological reasons, the bilateral relationships in historical prospective were inaccurately reflected in some of the publications printed in Russia and the territories it occupied, as well as in several of those published abroad. Therefore, each case of a historical falsehood calls for a due scholarly reaction. The Georgians’ and to some extent international interest in Georgia’s dealings with its northern neighbor has been re-kindled by Moscow’s aggression of 2008. It should be said that some accurate studies and documents were created in the late 19 and early 20 centuries, but the information contained therein were not widespread, with a number of historical sources and documents still unpublished. It should be said also that fair selection and unbiased interpretation of the documents remains a problem. The project will result into a monograph and a collection of documents related to the Georgia-Russia relationships rousing plenty of public interest.
